Fighting for the Sinner or the Saint & Gig on 280525

So pleased to annouce I have a new album ‘Fighting for the Sinner or the Saint’. Its an album full of songs for our time! The good news is that you’ll hear a little less of me on this collection because I’m joined by some amazingly talented friends. Piano, Keys and Accordion by Lars Hammersland (9 tracks). Bass courtesy of Svein Henning Berstad (4 track). Drums by Justine Barker (1). I’ll allow you to judge but I am, to say the least, very pleased with the results, if not absolutely blown away!

If you’re digitally ‘tuned in’ the album is available to buy and to stream on just about all of the popular platforms. It might be a day or two before it appears everywhere but it is already on Spotify.

I’ll be getting a few cd copies together for the old die hards amongst us and I’ll have them with me at the Cavern (Raynes Park) on the 28th May.

Take a listen, spread the word and enjoy. The albums available at digital outlets including spotify – links below

Gig at the Cavern 26th June

Looking forward greatly to playing The Cavern 100 Coombe Ln, West Wimbledon, London SW20 on the 26th June. This solo evening will be an opportunity to perform songs from my recent albums and knock out a few favourite covers. I’ll likely even dust of ‘Raynes Park’ because after all that was where I was born and as you may know “I never caught a Greyhound Bus I caught the 131” Hope to see many friendly faces.

A demo of a new song. Moving towards a more positive phase of writing I think. Playing the wonderful and beautiful Hofnew Senator rebuilt, repaired and customised by David Bourne after it was found in a skip!

  • Live at the Sound Lounge Album available now.

Live at the Sound Lounge Album available now.

Once in a while a gig comes along that exceeds all expectations and for me my appearance @ The Sound Lounge on 28 January 2024 was just that. Having been booked to support US singer songwriter RJ Chesney I was all prepared, harmonicas and guitar in hand to blast out a few of my songs that over the years have become favourites amongst my little loyal band of mates. I had also decided to throw in a new song for good measure. The end of 2023 had been a difficult time with serious family illness, albeit thankfully with a happy ending, so I was well up for a gig. So imagine my delight when my dear friends Keiron Marshall and Lars Hammersland announced that they’d love to join me. ‘Over the moon’ hardly does my feelings or the moment justice. The gig was captured by Setmixer, who work closely with the Sound Lounge, and subsequently I mixed and mastered the tracks. The resulting ‘live album’ is available now.

Lars Hammersland plays Piano and Hammond Organ – sometimes at the same time! Keiron Marshall plays lead guitar and adds backing vocals. I’m in there on lead vocals, acoustic guitar and harmonica. The result is magic. Spontaneous, joyous, melancholy and mad. The tracks:

    • Pacific Coast Highway on which Lars improvises Organ accompaniment akin to Morgan Fisher and Mott The Hoople.
    • Arlington the second number is where Keiron leaves the mixing desk and joins us on the stage, adding lead guitar and backing vocals to one the first songs I ever wrote almost 25 years ago.
    • The Strength of A Woman my salute to Hannah White.
    • Mercy Mercy My took on a life of its own and has since been featured by Setmixer “awesome live recording”. It truly is awesome.
    • So long to Baghdad. Keiron added a bit of slide on this one – a sort of desert whale song – hard to imagine I agree but tremendous to hear.
    • Reflections is the new song. A moment of reflective calm amongst all the end of year trauma.
    • The Demon Inside is performed in all its melodramatic glory with piano and guitar dueling between Keiron and Lars.
    • What I need is your love. We almost went jazzy on this one towards the end. We could have played all evening but alas It wasn’t my gig!

Looking forward to the next time. Its available all over the place including a few cd’s from me.

  • New songs this month!

    New songs this month!

I have a new collection of 8 songs about to be released to the world via CDBaby. I’d been out walking with camera in hand and my plan was to try and take one photo for each of the new songs. It shouldn’t have been difficuly but it was. But this pic seems to say so much about the collection but in particulary the song ‘What happened to freedom’ that it has become the CD cover photo and the photo for the online songs. I’ll be posting links to the songs very shortly in the meantime this is me singing an early version of the title track during and internet live stream last year. At that time lyrics were still developing, the last verse hadnt been written and the song even had a different name! LOL The collection even includes one or two happy songs. The track listing is as follow:

What happened to freedom, The Strength of a Woman, Set the children free, The Rooks and the Ravens, The Robin, Look upon my life, Highways Cities and Motorway Towns and He sees me.

  • Great day in the Studio

    Great day in the Studio

Earlier in the week I spent the day with long time collaborator Justine who has got herself a studio! Monty fell asleep and Sam called in to say hello play guitar and chill. So cool. With the help of Simon we tested setup, cables and played with stuff then we recorded a new song. I’m just hoping Jus doesn’t get fed up with me. Wink, Lol, Cheeky Face.
